FIELDTRIP REPORT

Dear Parents and Guardians,
You should be very proud of your child and our class. We made it to the top of Mt. Lawrence on Angel Island and hiked a total of 6 miles. Everyone was a trooper and had a great time on the field trip. We had excellent weather and sitting outside on both of our ferry rides. We played games before going on our hike and had lunch near the top of Mt. Lawrence. We made thank you cards to Officer Mike Rivera who organized this fieldtrip and to out chaperones. We will definitely go on more fieldtrips. I will let you know as soon as possible. If you would like to be a chaperone for our next fieldtrip please send me a note or email. Thank you! Pictures to come soon!

August 27, 2010

Welcome to our Third Grade Blog!
I am your fearless leader/teacher-Ms. Marcela San Miguel. Please check our website for weekly status updates and important information. In case you missed it, our Back to School night was Thursday, August 25th, 2010. At this meeting I went over our class curriculum, policy and procedures, and questions parents had. Here is the agenda and information from that meeting:

 -Intro
Hello, my name is Marcela San Miguel. I have been teaching elementary school for 5 years and adult education for 3 years. I was born and raised in the Mission district here in San Francisco. I went to San Francisco State for my undergraduate education and received a Master's degree in Education from Tufts University. I have a teacher's license from the State of Massachusetts. I am excited and looking forward to this year and hope you are too!

-Curriculum (texts)
We use the Houghton-Mifflin Reading and California Math series, Harcourt Science and Social Studies series (California edition),  Walking by Faith Religion series, and Step up to Writing.

         -folders/binders
-Students have a Finished/Unfinished work folder, homework folder, and 2 binders

-Grading
         -Assessment (40%), Participation (15%), Homework (20%), Classwork (25%)

-Behavior Policy
We, as a class, have established a set of classroom agreements. Should a student not follow an agreement, they are to change the color of their card by moving their clothespin down the series of colors. Green-had a good day, Yellow-warning, Blue-miss 10 min recess and Red-miss whole recess and receive a phone call home. Once a child has moved down the series of colors, they are able to move back up should they change their behavior and start following the class agreements again.

-Homework (packet)
I send a homework packet on Monday. It is to be completed and returned on Friday. I have set up a homework help session in my class on Thursdays from 2:45-3:15 should your child need help with their homework.

-Fieldtrips (10/6)
We will take a fieldtrip to Angel Island on Wednesday, October 6th. We have enough parent chaperones for this trip. There will be more fieldtrips in the future. Please notify me as soon as possible if you are able to chaperone because it is first come/first serve.  Little children are not permitted to attend class fieldtrips.

-Snack/Lunch rules- no hot cheetos
Please make sure you send a healthy snack and lunch for your child. Fruit and veggies are perfect snacks. Please do not send hot cheetos as a snack. Thank you!

-Volunteer hours (donations of supplies, tasks)
I can definitely use volunteers in the classroom and with donation of supplies. I would appreciation extra school supplies-gluesticks, glue, highlighters, art supplies (pipe cleaners, feathers, popsicle sticks), small prizes (the $1 store has many small prizes for a dollar),  old VHS children's movies, sports equipment, snacks (in case any one forgets their snack), and help with tasks.

-Book Orders
I will send home Scholastic book orders about every 2 months. Scholastic has many current and affordable books for your children and I highly recommend ordering from Scholastic.
